Hey guys! I’m Sarah from Little Red Brick House and I’m so glad to be back here at Made to Be a Momma today! I hope you all enjoyed your holiday break. I know I did! I am ready to take on a new year, though, and with that brings new projects. Today I’m sharing an easy DIY moss covered letter. I love how it brings a pop of nature into your decor without committing to keeping something alive, LOL. I can’t even keep a succulent alive, so these are perfect!

Materials:

  • Paper mache letter (you can find these at just about any craft store)
  • Preserved Sheet Moss (I found mine at Walmart)
  • Spray Adhesive

First off, you are definitely going to want to cover your work area with some newspaper because the moss gets everywhere. I like to apply the moss to the perimeter of my letter first and then fill in the center. I sprayed some adhesive onto the letter and let it sit for about a minute or until the glue became tacky.

Then I began to place pieces of the sheet moss onto where I applied the glue. You can cut the moss with scissors to get straighter edged in some part but I found that just tearing off pieces was easier and sufficient.

After the perimeter was covered, I began to fill in the rest of the letter, using the same steps as above. Just spray, wait a minute and then apply your moss. Easy peasy.

When you’re done your hands will be covered in sticky moss. Just massage a little bit of vegetable oil on your hands and it will break up all of that glue so you’ll be able to wash your hands as normal.

I decided to display mine under a glass cloche. I like how the rough, earthy texture of the moss is countered by the softness and sheen of the glass.

  1. Great project! I wanted to also add faux succulents onto moss covered letter, so any suggestionons on how to do that or what supplies I would need would be helpful. Needing them for my daughters wedding. Thank you. Laurie

  2. Oh my goodness I just LOVE this! I can’t keep anything alive either, so easy moss is definitely a good choice. Love it under the cloche!
