Hello again, Made to be a Momma friends! I’m so glad to be back. My name is Sarah and I blog over at Little Red Brick House. You may remember me from my last project here- my Moss Covered Letter. I’m so glad to be sharing a fun Valentine’s Day DIY with you today.

I’m not particularly crafty; more of a DIYer, if you will. So instead of paper crafts, I like to bust out the wood boards and saw. For this project all I needed was a small piece of thin plywood, an 8 ft. piece of wood lattice, some small wooden letters, paint and wood glue.

First, I cut my plywood to 12″ by 9.5″. Then I cut my lattice strip into 12″ pieces. I laid the lattice strips next to each other and free handed a heart shape in the middle. Next, I cut out the heart shape from each piece with a jigsaw and sanded the edges smooth.

Once those were all cut and sanded, I painted the piece of plywood red and stained the lattice strips with my favorite stain- Rustoleum Dark Walnut.

After everything dried completely, I glued the lattice strips onto the plywood with wood glue, making sure they created a pretty heart shape. I set a heavy pack of printer paper on top and let everything dry for about 24 hours.

While that dried I painted my wooden letters white.

I carefully applied the letters under the heart, making sure that my glue didn’t seep out the sides. I let that all dry completely and it was finished!

  1. Oh my gosh, this is amazing! I’m so afraid of using things like jigsaws, so I’m always super impressed when people can make awesome things like this! I love it!
