Have fun in the kitchen with your kids creating these chocolate covered Oreo crabs! They are the perfect summer treat!

I LOVE playing in the kitchen with my son Jacob!  He puts on his little apron and gets giddy with excitement to create.  Just the other day he asked me ( in his three year old voice) if we could make something together in the kitchen so I could take a pictures of it….haha it was one of those “who know your a blogger when…” moments!   We were playing in the kitchen a few days ago and I thought it would be fun to make a beachy/summer variation to my surprisingly super popular Oreo frogs—the first thing I thought of for beach was a crab.  I just love how these guys turned out  and they taste awesome.   It’s an Oreo covered in more chocolate…need I say more? 🙂

Ingredients:

Oreo’s

Candy Eyes (affiliate link)

Pull N’ Peel Twizzlers

Red Candy Melts  (affiliate link)

Red sprinkles (optional)

Melt your red candy melts according to the package.

Pull N’ Peel one string from your Twizzler.  Cut 6 small pieces from twizzler to make the small legs.  Three legs go on each side of the cookie.  Place on cookie sheet. ( See picture below)

To make the claw, pull and peel three strings from your Twizzler.  At one end of your Twizzler cut two diagonal lines towards the middle of the three Twizzlers to create a claw shape.  Go down about 1 inch from your claw “v” and remove one Twizzler string from each side.  ( If the words are confusing you…which they probably are 🙂 –just go ahead and look at the picture below, it explains it)

Crab Legs

Dip an Oreo in the melted candy melts.  To remove from chocolate, pick the Oreo up with a fork and lightly tap the fork on the side of the bowl to remove excess chocolate and to give it a smooth texture.

Quickly place Oreo on top of your 6 “feet”  and carefully attach your claws to the sides of the Oreo.

Crab Body

Place eyes on top of the Oreo and add a few red sprinkles if desired.   Pop the crabs in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes to harden the chocolate and secure the claws and legs.  I melted a very small amount of white chocolate and “drew” a smile on the crab, but that step is optional 🙂
