T-Shirt to Summer Vest Refashion

Warmer weather is coming and with that means swapping out the winter clothes for some cooler clothes!  Rather than going out and buying a whole new wardrobe ( which I wish I could afford haha) I decided to start hitting up the local thrift stores and do some refashioning!
First up....a t-shirt to a simple summer vest.

Materials:
Old Tshirt
Sewing machine

Cut down the center of your t-shirt....when I got close to the bottom I cut at a slight angle.  I wanted the bottom part of my vest to flare out a little bit.  You don't have to cut at an angle though.

Fold each side over about 1/2 an inch and sew.  Normally I would fold over once and then repeat to prevent fraying, but my tshirt was made out of knit and knit doesn't fray so I didn't worry about it. :)

At the top you dont want to sew straight up...it will look silly against the hem that is already there...instead stop and either hand stitch or sew close to the stitches that are already there.

Following the hem line, cut your sleeves off. ( Save them)

Open up your sleeves and cut off the hemmed edge.

Use the cut piece to make a tie ontop of your sleeves

Your Done! How simple right?!

Happy Crafting!
I hope you have a blessed weekend!

Kindle Cover

So for our anniversary my awesome hubby bought me a Kindle Fire! I have been using the thing NON stop!! I love reading books from it and being able to search the internet too! The only bad thing...it's hard to find a cute case that doesn't cost way more than I want to spend...so it gave me a perfect excuse to rummage through my fabric bin and get sewing!  Keep reading to learn how to make your own kindle case!  Don't have a kindle?  You can easily change the measurments to fit a smart phone, ebook or even a laptop.

Materials:
Fabric
Lining Fabric
Batting
Velcro
Sewing machine

Measure the size of the electronic you want to cover and add 1 inch for your 1/2 inch seam allowance on each side . EXAMPLE: my kindle fire measured (rounding up) about 8 in. X  5 in. I cut my pieces at 9 in. X 6 in.  Cut out your desired size flap.  I measured mine at 5 in. X 3in.

Place the softer side of your velcro on one our your flap pieces and sew in place.

Place the flap piece with the velcro on it on top of your batting. Place the other flap piece on top of the one with the velcro (pretty sides together)  Sew.  Turn right side out and top stitch. ( I must not have taken a picture of his step....sorry!)

Place your flap in the middle of one of your main fabric pieces and sew in place.
( Make sure you place right sides together)

Sew the other piece of velcro to the other piece of your MAIN fabric.  I placed my velcro about 3 inches down from the top.

Place your two main pieces right sides together with both pieces of your batting on the outside.  You should have batting, fabric, fabric and then batting.  Sew around the bottom and down both sides. Turn right side out.

Lay your two lining pieces right sides together and sew down both sides and across the bottom, BUT this time make sure you leave a small opening to pull your case through.

Insert your kindle case into your lining.. You guessed it! Right sides together again!  Match up your side seams and sew around the top edge of your case.

Pull your case through the opening. Pinch your opening closed and sew.

Put your lining into your bag and top stitch around the top of your case.

You can make a Rolled Fabric Flower for a little embellishment if you like.  You can find my tutorial for the flower HERE!

Homemade By You Wednesday!!

I hope you all had a WONDERFUL Easter!  We didn't quite hit 100 link ups last week, but we were super close.  I know most of us were busy spending time with our families (which is definetly more important than surfing the internet drooling over all the talent I see!!)... I didn't even link up to as many parties last week as I usually do.  Regardless...all of your projects were so incredible!  I truly am inspired by you all!!   I LOVE seeing and meeting new people who love the same things (crafts) as I do!

Here is last weeks "Most Clicked" on link....
Who would have thought to use wrapping paper for a new look on a craft table!! GENIUS.

{ Love is } Printable

April is a special month in my little family....April 8th is the birth date of our son. ( Did you see the fun Elmo & train themed party we had? (CLICK HERE to check it out!) April 11th is mine and Bryans anniversary!  We will be married 3 years already.  I am so blessed to be married to such a wonderful, godly, caring man.  I thank God everyday for him.  When I think of love or marriage I think of the well known verse in
1 Corinthians 13 where we see the characteristics of love.  I decided to make a printable to put in my home and I wanted to share with all of you!  I know we all have different decorating styles so I made a few of them with different colors.  I hope you will find one that works for you!

DIRECTIONS:  Right click the image you want to print and save to your computer.  You can either insert the picture into a Word document and print it or you can print it from a photo program on your computer.

My Little Man Turns {ONE}

It has been one BUSY weekend! Not only did we celebrate Easter yesterday but we also celebrated our chubby little mans 1st birthday!  I can not believe how fast a whole year went!  It was a very bitter sweet feeling.  I miss the cuddle time with a newborn, but not the colic :) I love the age the Jacob is at...he is such a ham!  He makes us laugh with all the crazy faces he has!  I have never felt more blessed than the day I became a mother! He is truly a blessing in our lives.  We feel so honored that the Lord has given us such a beautiful baby boy to raise!!

We had such a fun time putting together an Elmo & Train 1st Birthday Party with family and some of our closest friends......

Isn't this cake made by my mom awesome!! Jacob loved his little Elmo character...he wanted to keep grabbing it!

Remember these Elmo Oreo Bon Bon Pops we made for his party??

The fireplace area needed a little something, so I made a Birthday banner to make it a little more festive. You can find the tutorial (HERE)

He loved his HUGE Elmo from his Aunt Faithy!  Do you like his ELMO TIE SHIRT?  Do you want to make one?  (CLICK HERE) for the tutorial!

Wondering why we haven't given him cake before now?! :)

The little guests didn't leave without a treat too....remember the cute little Elmo favor bags I made...well the kiddos loved them! TUTORIAL HERE

We had such a great evening with our little munckin! How in the world did this little boy get so big so fast??
