Birthday Banner

I can't believe my little boy is turning {ONE} on Sunday!  Where in the world does the time go?? I have been busy making some things for Jakeys first birthday party and one of the SUPER simple things I made was a birthday banner.  Unfortunantly I don't have a silhouette cameo --- one of these days I WILL get one :) so I had to do things the old fashion longer way, but if you have a cameo...this could be done in HALF the time!.

MATERIALS:
Printed Letters
Scrapbooking paper
Baby food jar ( or something to use as a circle template)

Print out letters the size, font & color that you desire.
I did this in a Word document.  The font was GOUDY STOUT.
This is same font I used in my "Create" rug using Freeze paper FOUND HERE

Trace a circle or your desired shape around your letters and cut out.
I used an empty baby food jar.  I placed it upside down and looked through the bottom of the jar to make sure my letter was in the middle.

Next cut out larger circles out of your desired scrapbooking paper.
Since we are doing an Elmo & Train theme I chose primary colors.

Hang your letters on ribbon, jute or just tape them to the wall.
You could even use those mini clothespins to hang them up on something.

Make sure you come back on Monday to check out all my little mans birthday party pictures!
It's going to be a good day!

HAPPY CRAFTING &
MORE IMPORTANTLY HAPPY EASTER!!!!

Hi, my name is Sarah from The Winthrop Chronicles. I'm so excited to be with you guys today at Pincushion Creations! Katie is so nice and so talented, she has such a fun blog to follow. She asked me to share with you one of my tutorials, so I am going to share my vintage hair bow holder. I hope you enjoy!

I saw these wooden frames at Michaels and knew I just had to buy one because they were so cute. I had so many ideas of things I could do with it. I decided on a hair bow holder for my daughter's room. I wanted to go for more of a vintage feel. It was really easy to make and only cost me $6.
first. Get a picture frame or something like this wooden frame ($6 at Michaels)
second. Cut chicken wire to fit the inside (we had some left over in our garage)
third. Give the frame a vintage paint job. I painted it white with some spray paint I had. Once it dried, I sanded it down a little. I then rubbed some brown paint over it, and immediately wiped it off. The brown paint will make some of your sandpaper marks stand out, making it look worn and antique.

fourth. Hot glue the chicken wire to the back of the frame.

fifth. I used a ribbon to hang it. I simply hot glued some ribbon to the back.

Feel free to stop by my blog sometime and say hi!

Elmo Oreo Bon Bon Pops

Yes, this is my third post featuring something Elmo.   What can I say? My little man is turning one in less than a week and yep, his birthday is going to be Elmo and trains---I will definetly have pictures of his party!

My mom is amazing, in more ways than one, but especially in her baking skills...just look at some of these things she has made!

So...as you can see, I had no doubt in my mind that my mom would do an awesome job when I asked her to bake a few things for his party.  My mom came across the idea of these Elmo Cake Pops from this amazingly talented baker Angie Dudley  at  Bakerella.  (We are NOT claiming to be the originator of this idea)  We did make a small change and instead of using cake for a cake pop my mom made them out of oreo bon bons and I gave you the recipe for those chocolatey goods.    If you want the directions to make the elmo faces and many more amazing ideas check out the Bakerella site!

Oreo Bon Bons

1 package of oreos
1-- 8 oz package of cream cheese, softened
1 lb bag of chocolate wafers for melting

Finely crush oreos, then mix with cream cheese until combined.  Roll into desired sized and shaped balls. Chill on pan lined with waxed paper for 30 minutes.  While chilling, melt chocolate either in a microwave at 30 second increments until melted or put in melting pot. Dip chilled bon bons into melted chocolate.  Put your chocolate covered bon bons back into the refrigerator until chocolate hardens.  Decorate as desired.

This is where you can go crazy with your imagination and put them on sticks or drizzle some white chocolate on the top.  You could even try using the mint oreos or golden vanilla for different flavors.

Happy Crafting!
