Baseball Printable

I have been wanting to add some more sports elements to my sons room for awhile now.  I am actually thinking about possibly adding a new paint job to parts of the room. SHH...don't tell the hubby! :)

I searched and searched for a sports printable all over pinterest and google and just didn't find one that I loved so.....I decided to try this "making my own printable" stuff on picnik.  I love how it turned out!  I am a total newbie to making printables, but I had so much fun that I thought I would share it with all of you!  I haven't quite figured out all the sizing and what not to it, but I can tell you that you can double click on the picture below, right click and save it to your computer, open up a word document and click insert picture and it will open up in there and then you can print it! Once you save the picture to your computer you could also go into your pictures folder, right click the picture and select print...and most computers will open up a box where you can select different sizes to print.  I'm sure you will be seeing more printables in the future :)

Hope you enjoy & Happy Crafting!

Fabric Fox Bookend

My son Jacob LOVES books.  We are constantly finding him just sitting on the floor looking at his favorite book.  He already has quite a few, so I like to swap out the ones that we keep in his room and the ones we keep in the living room.  In order to keep his books all together and not all over the place, what better than a bookend?  The bottom is filled with rice so it's not going anywhere!

Materials:
Fabric
Stuffing
Heat-N-Bond
Rice/Sand
Stuffing
Sewing Machine

Draw yourself a pattern of your desired animal shape.

Using HEAT-N-BOND (follow the directions on your package), trace your shapes and adhere (pressing with a hot iron) to your contrasting fabric pieces.

Press (with a hot iron) your pieces down to the front body piece.

Top stitch around the eyes and your contrasting piece on your tail

Place your two pieces WRONG sides together and sew.  Leave a small opening at the bottom of your fox.  Do these same steps with your fox's tail.

Turn your fox's tail and body right side out and stuff with stuffing.

When your body is just about stuffed add your rice/sand for a weighted bottom.

Sew your tail shut.

Hand sew your fox's body shut.

Hand sew ( you could probably use hot glue or fabric glue for this step) your fox's tail to the back
of it's body.

No Slip Kitchen Towel

I saw this yellow fabric in Joanns the other day and I LOVED IT!  I had no idea what I actually wanted to do with it, but knew I would figure something out.  My awesome grandmother had made me some of these no slip kitchen towels for christmas.  My house is a mix of modern/primitive ( I know, two totally different spectrums of decorating, but they work!)  She had made me some country looking ones and I needed something new and fresh in celebration of SPRING!

This yellow remindes me of all the pretty yellow daffodils that are popping up everywhere!

Materials:
Fabric
Sewing Machine
New or gently used kitchen towel
Small pieces of Velcro

Cut out two matching pieces in the shape that you would like the top of your towel to be.  ( Make sure the very top is long enough to fold over your oven handle)

OPTIONAL STEP: Cut two contrasting band strips.  Make sure they are a little bit longer than your actual top part. ( You will trim later)

Place your contrasting band and top piece wrong sides together and sew. Trim your edges.

Top stitch

Place your two pieces wrong sides together and sew.

Press with a hot iron a 1/2 in. hem around the bottom of your towel piece. (Do this BEFORE you turn it right side out)

Turn right side out

Before you sew your towel into your "holder" part, you may want to cut off a few inches so the towel is not so long.  BASTE STITCH across the top and pull on your bobbin thread ( the bottom thread) to gather your towel.  More on gathering HERE

Insert your towel into your "handle" piece, pin in place and sew.

Glue or sew on your pieces of velco.  (You may want to put it on your oven handle and mark with a pencil/pen of where your velcro needs to go before you glue it on.)

Embellish to your hearts content.  I added some rolled fabric flowers....you can find my tutorial HERE
