Guest Post: Personalized Sign with Pitter and Glink

Hey, y'all!  I'm Bethany from Pitter and Glink.

I'm so excited to be hanging out at Pincushion Creations today!  I want to share with you how to make a super inexpensive and beautiful personalized sign.  I created this sign as a gift for my cousin's baby shower.

I started with a 13 1/2" piece of a 1x4 board.  I painted the top of the board cream because that is the color I wanted the name to be.

I used my Silhouette to cut a name out of contact paper.  (Here is a great tutorial on how to do that.)

I applied the letters to the board.  I then painted over the letters with the cream color to prevent paint from bleeding under the letters.  Then I painted the entire sign green.

I wanted to add a little pizazz to the sign, so I used Martha Stewart's pearly paint in a minty green color and a stencil to create a pattern on the sign.

After the pattern was to my liking, I carefully peeled of the contact paper letters with tweezers.

I then used a brown ink pad to add an aged look to the edges of the sign.  And I sealed the sign with polycrylic.

I wanted to add some pink to the sign, and what better way to do that than with flowers, glitter, ric-rac and a bow?  I hot glued pink ric-rac to the edge of the sign.  And I added a pink bow to one corner and several flowers to the other.

It didn't take a lot of money to create this personalized gift.

But beautiful, personalized gifts don't have to be expensive.

I hope my cousin likes it!  And I hope you liked reading about how to make it. :)  I really enjoyed "taking over"  Pincushion Creations for the day.  Head over to my blog...

For whatever reason, It must have something to do with the BLOG HOP link code, it pushed my About Me section, buttons & followers down near the bottom of the page. So just scroll down until I can get the problem fixed :)

The Blog Hop has made its way over to PINCUSHION CREATIONS!

Whoo Loves You??

Who wouldn't love a cute little plushie for Valentines Day or any day really??

Materials:
Pink Fleece
Orange felt
 Pink felt
Black felt
White Felt
 White Button
Small piece of Flannel or cotton fabric
 Sewing machine
Stuffing

I don't have a pattern for you to download, but I'm sure you could find one somewhere in this crazy internet world :) I like to free hand alot of my patterns. I just draw and cut. That's what I love about this owl, you can make it any size you want. You could make it fatter, taller, smaller...you get the idea.
Begin by cutting out 2 bodies, 1 belly, outer heart, inner heart, beak, two eyes ( two white pieces & two black pieces)
Set your sewing machine on your blanket stitch. You don't have to do this. You can use just a regular stitch. I just liked the way it looked.
Place your belly piece on the bottom part of your owl and stitch in place.
Place the outer heart on your owl where you want it to be and stitch. If you move your needle as far over as you can it will make it easier to stitch close to the edge.
Now place you inner heart in the middle of your outer heart and stitch.
Decide where you want your owl's eyes and beak to go and stitch in place.
Rather than stitching around the tiny black pupils, just stitch a small straight line down the middle of each pupil to hold it in place.
Once you stitch all your pieces to the front of your owl take the other body fabric piece, and lay them right sides together and sew.
Keep your presser foot at the edge of your fabric.
When you get to the bottom of your owl, sew in a few inches. Stop and backstitch leaving an opening big enough to stuff your owl. Then backstitch and sew the rest of the owl closed. Turn your owl right side out.
Stuff your owl.
Pinch your opening closed.
Handstich the opening closed.
Enjoy your new little owl plushie! To my surprise, my little man loved this owl! Everytime he saw it, he giggled...must have been the funny big eyes :) Don't worry, I bought some blue and green material to make him a special one. I love pink, but thought it best that one of my son's new favorite toys not be a pink owl with hearts. Not a fan of pink?? Go pick some of your favorite colors out and make it just the way you want! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! Thanks for reading!  Sending you all my love during this special holiday! <3
Yes, I did put a bow and button on this owl
and yes, I did decide to do this after I had taken all the pictures :)
