Little Sweet Candy Jars

Baby jars, baby jars & more baby jars. Having a 9 month old in the house means we go through alot of baby food which means I have LOTS of  baby food jars.  Rather than throwing them all out I am always trying to think of ways to reuse them. With Valentines Day coming I thought these would make perfect little candy jars for our valentines.

Materials needed
Fabric ( just a small scrap piece would work great)
Baby Food Jar (or any size jar)
Ribbon
Buttons
Small piece of scrapbooking paper
Candy (optional)

Lay your fabric on a table and place the baby food jar lid on top. Draw a circle around the lid. I made sure I started to draw at least 2 inches away from the sides of the lids so that I had enough to hang over the jar.

Put some tacky glue on the top of the lid and lay your fabric down. ( Make sure you smooth the fabric and glue with your finger-- you can also use a credit card to smooth it out as well) Make sure you center
the lid on the fabric so your material on the jar is equal in length.

Add some glue to the side of the lid and push the fabric down.
Continue until the lid is covered.

You will have to fold the fabric in areas to make it fit, but don't
worry that only adds charm to the jar :)

Next, I measured the size of the lid. It was 2 inches. I then cut a 2 in. circle shape out of some matching
scrapbooking paper. If you use a jar other than a baby food jar your measurements might be different.

Using tacky glue I glued the circle down. It helped to cover the stain that the lid can get especially if it
was holding sweet potatoes which happens to be one of my little mans favorites!

Next I cut some ribbon. I usually cut more than I need to be sure it will go all the way around the jar.

Find the center of your ribbon and glue a small piece to the back of the jar. This keeps the ribbon in
place while you are tying the ribbon around the jar. ( The ribbon is really hard to tie if you don't do this step)

I then looped one end of the ribbon through a white button and then a pink one. Do the same thing
with the other piece of ribbon through the opposite button holes.

Tie the ribbon and then fill with some candy. You sweetheart will love it!!

Rolled Fabric Flower

Simple and sweet can easily describe these cute flowers that you can use to decorate pretty much anything! One of my favorite ways to make fabric flowers are by rolling them.

Start off with a long strip of Fabric ( length depends on how big you want the flower) and fold that strip in half wrong sides together. **Folding it in half helps the wrong side stay hidden as you roll the fabric. Some material like primitive or country you may want the wrong side to show a little bit for the look of it so you wouldn't have to worry about folding it in half.**

ITie a knot at one of the ends of the fabric-this helps free a hand when you begin to roll it

Tape the end to the table. This prevents the fabric from shifting as you are twisting it....which takes us to our next step :)

Twist the fabric---all the way to the end

Once you twist the strip fold it in half again and it will actually start to twist around itself. You will see what I mean when you do it.

Start to roll the fabric onto itself to form a circle. (Hot glue is the best form of glue---fabric glue would take too long to dry and you flower would start to unravel)

Make sure you keep twisting the strip as you hot glue it down. Keep going until you have nothing left!

You are all done!! Isn't she a cutie!!

I'll have some valentines day posts next week with some of these little cuties!

Sewing "Must Have" Tools

Sewing and all the equipment that "could" go with it can be very overwhelming.  I have found that I can do MANY projects with just a few main sewing tools.  So if you are just a beginner don't be discouraged by all the equipment you think you NEED.  I listed a few tools that I use frequently.

First of all my sewing machine.  I have a Singer Athena.  It is nothing fancy, but it does have some fancy stitches and does everything I need it to do.  I do have a serger as well, but that is an older model.

Seam Ripper (You will use it! I use mine shamefully alot ;) )
Bobbins and Threads
Pins/Pincushion-- Ashley from http://www.makeit-loveit.com/  has a super cute tutorial
to make your own ( Here )
