My Little Artist---Our First Painting

I don't ever want to wish my little boys life by too fast, but I think every "crafty" momma can't wait till her munchkins get to the point where their kids can do some fun crafty things!  Well...my little guy is 18 months old and he is just starting to like to do more activities.  He doesn't quite get excited yet or understand too much of what im saying but he likes to make a mess and thats all that counts.  Well this mommy and son decided to have a take at our first painting project.

Now....before I continue there is this little quirk you have to understand about my son Mr. Jake....he HATES getting things on his hand! Food.....I have to quickly wipe off.....if there is a piece of mommys hair wrapped around his fingers...forget it! ( Major crisis)......He is too funny!  He likes to be nice and neat....unless he is munchin' on one of Nanas Chocolate Chip cookies...then bring ON the chocolate........I am sure that it won't last long and he will be bringing in nasty bugs and frogs from the outside world :)

Well.....mommy decided to make a little fall tree......I started off painting two little trunks...and my IDEA was to use Jacobs left hand and right hand to make the branches......well as soon as I started painting the brown paint on his hand he freaked!  He started crying and looked at me like Mom...REALLY?  So...I was able to do his right hand...and I did my own left hand......needless to say all the "leaves" were made with a brush he had fun dabbing on the paper rather than his thumb or fingers.... :)  I LOVED watching him...he is also very precise about things....so every dab was thought out :)

My question to you is........What fun crafts do you do with your little kiddos??  I would love to hear some great ideas!

  1. haha I like that you had to do the second tree ;) My little guy LOVES getting messy when it is his idea, but will suddenly become totally distraught and need to be cleaned up- like NOW!

We have had a lot of fun with squeeze bottle painting. You can pick up clear squeeze bottles on the cheap at Michaels (in the food stuff). Thicken your paint with flour to stop it from spraying and slow it down. Plus side no messy hands!

  2. I love this! I'm so going to make one with my daughter! Thanks for the great idea. In fact, I just might make one on canvas with all four of my kids to create a fall scene. I recently made a footprint ghost one, and I love that it hides all our Blu-Rays on our shelf, so I was thinking of making one for each holiday/season, but I wasn't sure what to do for fall/Thanksgiving, not wanting the overly-done turkey. Yay! You've inspired me.
